40s furthur

These pictures are a part of the History Painting Series: the main  pictures are each about a decade of the twentieth century, with exception of the first and last picture of the 12, which represent a preview and an epilogue.

These are the last two pictures of the series that I painted, my last words on the subject, so to say. It is a return to the ‘projections’ of the decade. But now instead of projecting into our present and our future, the 40s are only projected onto the past, at the beginning of the century, and ‘furthur’, as Ken Kesey might say.
